2738 - that a man sneezed next to Ibn `Umar and said, “Praise be to and peace be upon the Messenger of God رجلا عطس إلى جنب بن عمر فقال الحمد لله والسلام على رسول الله

[ 2738] حدثنا حميد بن مسعدة حدثنا زياد بن الربيع حدثنا حضرمي من آل الجارود عن نافع أن رجلا عطس إلى جنب بن عمر فقال الحمد لله والسلام على رسول الله قال بن عمر وأنا أقول الحمد لله والسلام على رسول الله وليس هكذا علمنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم علمنا أن نقول الحمد لله على كل حال قال أبو عيسى هذا حديث غريب لا نعرفه إلا من حديث زياد بن الربيع

[2738] Humayd ibn Mas`adah told us, Ziyad ibn al-Rabi` told us, Hadrami from the family of al-Jarud told us, on the authority of Nafi` that a man sneezed next to Ibn `Umar and said, “Praise be to God and peace be upon the Messenger of God.” Ibn `Umar said, “And I say, ‘Praise be to God and peace be upon the Messenger of God,’ but this is not how the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, taught us. He taught us to say, ‘Praise be to God in every situation.’” Abu `Isa said, “This is a strange hadith. We do not know it except from the hadith of Ziyad ibn al-Rabi`.”
