3797 - he children are a source of miserliness and cowardice إليه وقال " إن الولد مبخلة مجبنة

3797 - حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة، حدثنا عفان، حدثنا وهيب، حدثنا عبد الله بن عثمان بن خثيم، عن سعيد بن أبي راشد، عن يعلى العامري، أنه قال جاء الحسن والحسين يسعيان إلى النبي ـ ﷺ ـ فضمهما إليه وقال " إن الولد مبخلة مجبنة "

المعني العام

مجبنة: أي أن الولد سبب لجبن الأب فإنه يتقاعد من الغزوات بسبب حب الأولاد والخوف من الموت عنهم. ومعنى قوله "مبخلة" أي أن الولد سبب للبخل بالمال، ومعنى قوله "مجهلة" لكونه يحمل على ترك الرحلة في طلب العلم والجد في تحصيله لاهتمامه بتحصيل المال له.

3797 - Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah told us, Affan told us, Wahib told us, Abdullah bin Othman bin Khathim told us, on the authority of Saeed bin Abi Rashid, on the authority of Ya`la al-`Amiri, that he said: Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn came running to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so he embraced them and said, “The children are a source of miserliness and cowardice.”

The general meaning

Cowardly: meaning that the son is a reason for the father’s cowardice, as he withdraws from military campaigns due to his love for children and fear of dying while they are alive. The meaning of his saying “miserly” is that the son is a reason for miserliness with money, and the meaning of his saying “ignorant” is because he is led to abandon the journey in search of knowledge and the effort in obtaining it due to his concern with obtaining money for himself.
