Surat Ash-Shu'ara 375

Updated: Jun 22

And fear Him who created you and those who created the first. (184) They said, “You are only one of those who are bewitched.” (185) You are but a human being like us, even though we think you are among the liars. (186) Then send down upon us a piece from the sky, if you are of the truthful ones (187) He said: My Lord knows best what you do (188) So they rejected him, so the torment of the Day of Shadow seized them. Indeed, it was the torment of a great day. (189) Indeed, in that is a sign, but most of them are not believers. (190) Indeed, your Lord is Almighty, Most Merciful (191) Indeed, it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds (192) The Faithful Spirit descended upon him (193) upon your heart that you may be among the warners (194) With a clear Arabic tongue (195) And indeed, it is among the people of the ancients (196) Was there not a sign for them that the scholars of the Children of Israel should not know? (197) And if We had sent it down to some of the foreigners (198) So he recited it to them as long as they were not believers in it (199) Thus We have caused it to pass into the hearts of the criminals (200) They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment (201) Then it will come to them suddenly and they do not realize it. (202) Then they say, “Are we going to be seen?” (203) So will they hasten Our torment (204) Have you considered that We gave them enjoyment for years (205) Then what they were promised will come to them (206)

The Interpretation of Imam al-Tabari - may God have mercy on him -

(And fear) O people, the punishment of your Lord (who created you and created the first creation) means by the creation: the first creation.

Yunus told me, he said: Ibn Wahb told us, he said: Ibn Zaid said, in his saying: (And bring down upon us a crust from the sky) he said: a part of the sky, the torment of that torment.

He said: Jarir bin Hazim told me that he heard Qatada say: He sent Shuaib to two nations: to his people, the people of Madyan, and to the people of the grove. The thicket was made of a twisted tree; When God wanted to torture them, God sent a severe heat upon them, and raised the torment upon them as if it were a cloud. When it approached them, they went out to her, hoping for its cooling, when they were under it, fire rained down on them. He said: That is his saying: (Then the torment of the Day of Shadow seized them.)

God Almighty mentioned it: Indeed, in Our torment of the people of Shuaib is the torment of the Day of Shadows, for their denial of their Prophet Shuaib, for a sign for your people, O Muhammad, and a lesson for those who consider it, if they consider that our tradition is against them in their denial of you, Our Sunnah regarding the owners of the grove. (And most of them were not believers) in our previous knowledge of them (and indeed, your Lord) O Muhammad (is indeed the Mighty) in taking His vengeance on those who took revenge on Him from among His enemies (the Most Merciful) to those of His creation who repent and turn to obey Him.

The Trustworthy Spirit, Gabriel, peace be upon him, revealed the Qur’an.

The correct statement regarding this in our view is to say: They are two extensive readings among the readers of the lands, with similar meanings, whichever of them the reader reads, he will be correct, and that is because if the Faithful Spirit descended upon Muhammad with the Qur’an, he would not reveal it except by God’s command to him to descend, and he will not be ignorant that this is also the case with a person with faith in God, and that if God sent it down to him, he would descend with it.

God Almighty reminded him that this Qur’an was revealed in a clear Arabic language in this place, informing the polytheists of Quraysh that he had revealed it in this way, so that they would not say that it was revealed in a language other than ours, for we only turn away from it and do not hear it, because we do not understand it, but this is a slander against them.

On the authority of Qatada, in his saying: (Did not there be a sign for them that the scholars of the Children of Israel should know?) He said: Did not the Prophet have a sign, a sign that the scholars of the Children of Israel knew? That they found it written with them? And His saying: (And if We had sent it down to some of the foreigners) God Almighty says: And if We had sent down this Qur’an to some of the animals that do not speak, But it was said about some non-Arabs, and it was not said about some non-Arabs, because the Arabs say that if a man is described as a non-Arab and he does not speak Arabic: This is a non-Arab man, and the woman is entitled to it, And for the group: These are people of non-Arab and non-Arab, and if this meaning is intended to describe the Arab and non-Arab, because it only means that he is not fluent in tongue.

And his saying (so he recited it to them) says: So, he recited this Qur’an to the infidels of your people, O Muhammad, upon whom you had decreed that they should not believe in that foreigner as long as they were believers in it. He says: They would not believe in him, Because of the misery that has befallen them in my previous knowledge, this is a relief from God, His Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him, on behalf of his people, lest his distress be intensified by them turning away from him and turning away from listening to this Qur’an, Because he, peace and blessings of God be upon him, was very keen for them to accept him and enter into what he had called them to, until his Lord blamed him for his extreme eagerness to do that from them, and said to him: (Perhaps you are killed of yourself that they will not be believers.) Then he said: because of the despair of their faith and that they will be destroyed by some of his examples, just as some of the nations whose stories he told in this Surah were destroyed, And if we revealed it to some non-Arabs, O Muhammad, you do not mind, for you are a man among them, and they say to you: You are only a human being like us. Would an angel have sent it down, and that non-Arab recited this Qur’an to them? And they had no reason to claim that it was true, and that it was a revelation from me, which they did not believe in, so reduce your concern for their belief in it, and then God Almighty mentioned to him the news of what had been imposed upon these polytheists.

God Almighty says: Then these people who deny this Qur’an, the painful punishment, will come suddenly, meaning suddenly (and they do not perceive it). He says: They do not know before that of His coming until He surprises them suddenly. (Then they will say) when it comes to them suddenly, “Are we ever going to be respite?” meaning, “Are we to have the torment delayed from us, and forgotten in our appointed time, so that we may repent and repent to God of our polytheism and disbelief in God, so that we may return to believing in Him and repent to His obedience?”

God Almighty says: Then came to them the torment that they had been threatened with because of their disbelief in Our signs and their denial of Our Messenger. (What availed them) He says: What availed them of the delay that We delayed in their time, And the enjoyment that We provided them with in life, since they did not repent of their polytheism, did Our provision of that provide them anything but ruin? And did it benefit them anything? Rather, it harmed them by increasing their sins, and they gain from crime what if they had not enjoyed it, they would not have earned it, Yunus told me, he said: Ibn Wahb told us, he said: Ibn Zaid said, in his saying: (Have you seen that We gave them enjoyment for years) until his saying (What they used to enjoy is of no use to them) He said: These are the people of disbelief.

A view around the verses

And fear Him who created you and those who created the first. (184) They said, “You are only one of those who are bewitched.” (185) You are but a human being like us, even though we think you are among the liars. (186)

The earth began to be filled with heavenly messages, so our master Shuaib said to them, Fear God - glory be to Him, who created you and the nations before you that were the foundation of this earth, their response was the same as the response of all lying nations: You are enchanted, and you are only human beings like us: as if they wanted a different creation that would bring them the message of their Lord, and this in the custom of wild nature is strange and wondrous. If the message was at the hand of a human being like them, it has its advantages, including:

1 - That he be of their kind, so they should not say, “He is one of the angels,” for example, because he is stronger than them in faith, but they are not able to do so. They should not come up with something similar to what he brings, in confirmation of what God Almighty says, (They fear their Lord above them and do what they are commanded.)

2 - Or from the genus of the jinn, so they have supernatural powers, such as flying in the sky or penetrating a wall, and they say: How can God - the Almighty - equal us to someone who is more capable than us to do things that we cannot do?

3- Or to be of a completely different gender, like the robot today, which is contrary to good nature and human nature.

4 - As for him being a human being, and they know him well (from their people): He experiences the same symptoms of life that humans experience, such as fatigue, exhaustion, fear, eating, drinking, marriage, and other things. They say, “If our Prophet can, then we can, At the same time, they know him, they know his lineage among them, and they know if he is truthful - trustworthy - known for his righteousness...etc. So, they acknowledge his virtue, for there is no one better than a human being’s people to take pride in a person’s merit or insult, then they said to him: We think you are among the liars, the suspicion, as stated in the noble hadith (the suspicion is the most false of hadith ), is merely a suspicion and not a certainty, and in the case of the prophets: a slander against them in order to destroy their call. and God is superior and knows best.

Then send down upon us a piece from the sky, if you are of the truthful ones (187) He said: My Lord knows best what you do (188) So they lie him, so the torment of the Day of Shadow seized them. Indeed, it was the torment of a great day. (189) Indeed, in that is a sign. And most of them are not believers. (190) And indeed, your Lord is the Mighty, the Most Merciful. (191)

So they began to ask for punishment: for a piece of the sky to fall on them, and they challenged him by saying to him: If you are among the truthful, then he said to them: Indeed, my Lord knows best what you do, His story with his people ended with them saying they lied to him, so he took them on the day of the canopy: a cloud that shaded them, and when they were completely under it, a fire blazed over them and burned them, and the question here is: Is this reasonable for the sky to ignite fire and throw its lava on people? First, we ask God for well-being. Second: God has power over all things. Third: The sky has rained things throughout history that are stranger than imagination. People threw by stones in Italy, in Sicily, and this is recently, The sky threw up or rained frogs, fish, and other strange things, and the West called them: natural phenomena due to circumstances, such as a tsunami or a flood occurring in the land, The frogs adjust themselves and fly instead of jumping, then they fall due to gravity to the ground again in form of rain, Indeed, it was the torment of a great day... Do not neglect or challenge the verses of God, for God grants respite and does not neglect, and most of them were not believers, and these verses are against Shuaib - peace be upon him - It came different in the closing of the story, as God - the Almighty - told us that the majority of them were disbelievers in God - the Almighty - and in this.

A gesture

At the end of the session, the pioneers of live coaching have what is called a closing, and in this closing each one of the people sitting says what he learned from what he heard, then the lecturer or live coach concludes with a closing summarizing everything that was said in this session, God Almighty - there is a closure in this noble surah from the beginning of the same closure (And most of them are not believers. Indeed, your Lord is indeed the Mighty, the Most Merciful). This is not assonance, but as we said before that, the diversity in the Qur’anic discourse is unparalleled by the best skilled writers, and God is Most High and Most Knowing.

The story of Shuaib - peace be upon him - has ended and we can benefit from it as follows:

1 - Enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong: is a matter in our Islamic religion, and when you see something wrong, such as cheating on the scales: you must speak, but in a good way, if he is not deterred, you follow the law with him, even if it is societal law.

2 - In other verses on the authority of Shuaib - peace be upon him - in another surah, they say to him: That is, his people: Do your prayers command you that we abandon what our fathers worshiped or that we do with our wealth whatever we want? It is as if they were denouncing all the denials about this and ended their conversation with him: Indeed, you are the forbearing and the wise. As if they wanted to embarrass him and confirm him so that he would not talk to them again about their money.

3 - The idea of understatement: There are those who show you 10 posts on social media that contain really interesting and useful things, but they do not say a word, and when you post one post, they do not like a thing in it, you are subjected to rebuke in front of people (Do not deprive people of their things). The idea of underestimation discredits your sincerity. Do not try to belittle anyone, for whoever does that (He exalts whom He wills and humiliates whom He wills) is God, not you, and God is Most High and Most Knowing.

Indeed, it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds (192) The Faithful Spirit has sent it down by it (193) Upon your heart that you may be among the warners (194) With a clear Arabic tongue (195)

Then the noble verses continued to cheer the mind of the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - and Surat Al-Shu’ara was revealed only to make it clear that the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace was not a poet, The Quraysh were famous for their poetry and poets, and they used to recite 1,000 verses of poetry orally in the House of Nadwa, while they were illiterate and only a few of them knew how to read or write. After a quick tour of the hadiths of the prophets before him - may God bless him and grant him peace, The Qur’an returned to address him alone - may God bless him and grant him peace and to the believers after him.

It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds

That is, it is a declaration from the Lord of the Worlds to the believers to know that this Qur’an is from the Lord of the Worlds. The Qur’an was revealed to the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - in various places, in the homes of the Companions, in the mosque, on his camel, with one of the Companions on his side, or in the house of Aisha and other places, no matter how clever or genius the Messenger of God is, he cannot come up with fabricated words suddenly and without prior arrangement. Therefore, whoever hears the Qur’an while he is neutral in his thinking will understand that it cannot be composed by humans.

The faithful Spirit descended upon him

Our Master Gabriel, peace be upon him - the Trustee of Revelation - which is another declaration that the Trustee and Revelation of all previous heavenly messages is Gabriel, and he is known to the people of other heavenly religions, and he is the Trustee of the Revelation of the Qur’an as well, so there is no confusion about the matter.

upon your heart that you may be among the warners

On your heart: See, God, Lord of the worlds, did not say: We have revealed the Qur’an on your tongue, O Muhammad, which is the first in this position and context of speech, but God - the Almighty - chose the heart, Perhaps because the heart is the most honorable thing in man, and perhaps God does not look at our images and shapes but rather looks at our hearts, and perhaps the basis of obligation is the heart and not the mind, for with the mind you know Islam, and with the heart you love it or deny it. Why did He send it down to your heart (so that you may be among the warners)

In a clear Arabic language

Why? Because the Arabic language is one of the most eloquent tongues among all peoples

Because the Arabic language has the largest number of letters in the alphabet among languages, with 28 letters, and the hamza has 29 letters

Because the Arabic language is among the ancient living languages that have not become extinct and will not become extinct because the Qur’an was written in it

Because the Arabic language is the language chosen from among the languages of the world to address the believers in the Paradise

Because the Arabic language has most types of eloquence, such as eloquence, rhyme, literature, grammar, and so on

Because poetry in Arabic is one of the finest and best types of poetry in other languages

And perhaps for other reasons: God Almighty chose the Qur’an in the Arabic language.

And indeed, it is among the people of the ancients. (196)

Was there not a sign for them that the scholars of the Children of Israel should not know? (197)

Didn't the Prophet have a sign, a sign that the scholars of the Children of Israel knew that they would find it written down with them?

And if We had sent it down to some of the foreigners (198) and recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. (199)

That is, if we had sent down this Qur’an to the non-Arabs (non-Arabic speakers) and our Master Muhammad had read it to them, they would not have believed in it.

Then it will come to them suddenly and they do not realize it. (202)

Torment for some people only comes suddenly, God forbid. If you were one of the deniers and continued to deny it, what do you expect: for God Almighty to hide you before He brings you torment? We only live under the mercy of God Almighty.

Then they say, “Are we going to seen ?” (203)

That is, are we left with a new period in which we repent to God and return to our senses?

So will they hasten Our torment? (204) Have you considered that We should give them enjoyment for years? (205) Then what they had been promised came to them (206)

One of the worst people is the one who hastens the punishment of God: just because he has power, oppression, influence, money, and perhaps knowledge. So he is arrogant and unjust and asks to see the punishment of God with his own eyes, and then God Almighty follows -

What do you think if we entertain them for years?

As you walk on the journey of life, you may find someone who has wronged you, or someone who has wronged himself with disbelief and polytheism in God - glory be to Him - enjoying and enjoying his life with all comfort, and perhaps you are in a difficult situation, and perhaps he is mocking you and your condition, and perhaps he is the one who was the cause of your affliction, as in the wars between tyrants and believers, God says to you, remove your sense of humiliation and look at things as they really are: Have you seen that We gave them enjoyment for years, then came to them what they were promised? And the other verse is at the beginning of the next verse (What will avail them is what they used to enjoy?)

Dear brother

1 - The word “mutah” only appeared in the Qur’an as a threat, because it is always followed by a threat from God Almighty, and you can trace that yourself through the Qur’an.

2 - It is said that if happiness is a moment, then satisfaction is life. Moments of happiness are (pleasure) or the whole of life, so it is complete with satisfaction.

3 - No matter how much enjoyment someone in front of you enjoys while you are in grief, the scales will turn on the day of the death of this person enjoying it - if he was an oppressor - is it true that if what is promised of God’s punishment comes to him if he is an infidel, polytheist, or oppressor, what he enjoyed in his life will spare him the punishment?

4 - We have experienced in our world: if some calamity happens to us, we forget all the past goodness that we saw in our lives, so what if it was torment and not any torment, The punishment of God is eternal... We ask God for well-being and safety.
