Mecca

The number of its verses

42

And their arrangement in the Qur’an

80

Does the surah have other names?

Yes (it is called Surah Al-Sakhaa, and the yellow) in the thirtieth part, it began with a past tense verb, he frowned and turned away, and the word majesty was not mentioned in it. The story of Abdullah bin Umm Maktoum was mentioned, which was revealed after Surat Al-Najm.

The Interpretation

Allah says

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى (1)

He frowned and turned away (1)

The change and frown appeared in the face of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he turned away, It was mentioned that the blind man whom God mentioned in this verse was the son of Umm Maktum, and the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was blamed because of him.

On the authority of Urwa, on the authority of Aisha, she said:

(He frowned and turned away) was revealed about Ibn Umm Maktum. She said: He came to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and began to say: Guide me. She said: And the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, is one of the great polytheists, She said: Then the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, turned away from him and turned to the other and said:   “Do you see any harm in what I say? He says: No, for in this was revealed: (He frowned and turned away).

On the authority of Ibn Abbas, who said: (He frowned and turned away * when the blind man came to him) He said: “While the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was conversing with Utbah bin Rabi’ah, Abu Jahl bin Hisham, and Al-Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, He would often confront them and offer them to believe, Then a blind man called Abdullah bin Umm Maktoum came to him, He walked while conversing with them, so Abdullah began to recite to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, a verse from the Qur’an, He said: O Messenger of God, teach me what God has taught you. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, turned away from him, frowned at him, and turned away.

Allah says

أَنْ جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَى (2)

If the blind man came to him (2)

Because the blind man, Abdullah bin Umm Maktoum, came to him for guidance, and the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, was busy calling the elders of Quraysh to Islam.

About Mujahid

He said: A man from Banu Fihr, called: Ibn Umm Maktum.

It was mentioned to us that the Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, appointed him as his successor twice after that in charge of Medina in two raids, which he invaded and prayed with its people.

On the authority of Qatada, he said: Ibn Umm Maktum came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace

While he was speaking to Ubayy bin Khalaf, he turned away, so God revealed to him: (He frowned and turned away.) After that, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, honored him. Anas said: On the day of Al-Qadisiyah, I saw him wearing a shield and a black flag.
