- 5150 - Newborn tahneek: passing dates into the top of his mouth
5150 - Ishaq bin Nasr told me: Abu Osama told us, he said: Burayd told me, on the authority of Abu Burda, on the authority of Abu Musa, may God be pleased with him, He said: a boy was born to me, so I brought him to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he named him Ibrahim, Hannah: chewing a date little and pass it in the upper part of his mouth, and he prayed for him for blessing, and gave him to me, and he was the eldest son of Abu Musa. The related studies It has recently been found that all children, especially newborns and infants, are at risk of death if one of two things happen to them: hypoglycemia or low body temperature when exposed to the cold surroundings. The level of sugar (glucose) in the blood for newborns is low, and the lower the birth weight, the lower the sugar content, and therefore, premature babies (weighing less than 2.5 kg) have a very low sugar level, so that it is often less than 20 mg For every 100 milliliters of blood, newborns over 2.5 kilograms usually have a blood sugar level above 30 milligrams. This level is considered a severe drop in blood sugar level, and leads to serious symptoms, including: The newborn refuses to breastfeed. - Muscle relaxation. Recurrent pauses in breathing, and cyanosis occurs in the body. Convulsions It may also lead to serious and chronic complications, the most important of which are: Delayed growth. - Retardation. - brain paralysis. Hearing or vision injury, or both. Frequent epileptic fits. If this condition is not treated at the time, it may end in death, although its treatment is easy and affordable, which is to give sugar glucose dissolved in water, either orally or intravenously, This is what the tahneek (passing the dates on the top of the newborn’s mouth) Tahniq is a preventive treatment for hypoglycemia, because it contains glucose in abundant quantities, especially after dissolving it with saliva, which contains special enzymes that transform the double sugar (sucrose) into a monosaccharide, as for the saliva, it facilitates the dissolution of sugars, and thus facilitates the benefit of the newborn. Therefore, maternity and children’s hospitals have been giving newborns glucose solution immediately after birth, and before his mother breast-feeds him, and from here the wisdom of tahneek is manifested as a prophetic Sunnah.
