The righteous guardians of God

Updated: 6 days ago

First: The Islamic names
The Muslim

The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe from, and an immigrant is one who abandons what God has forbidden.” Narrated by Al-Bukhari.

The believer

In the long hadith of Gabriel: ...What is faith? He said: Faith is to believe in God, His angels, His books, and His messengers, and to believe in Heaven, Hell, and the scale, and you believe in resurrection after death, and you believe in destiny, both good and evil. He said: So, if you do this, am I a believer? He said: Yes... Narrated by Omar bin Al-Khattab.

The benefactor

In the long hadith of Gabriel: ...What is ihsan? He said: To work for God as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, He sees you. He said: If you do this, am I a doer of good? He said: Yes. He said: You are right...the hadith

The righteous

God Almighty said: ((And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will admit them among the righteous.) So they were believers, then they were raised to the rank of the righteous.

The exaggerated honest

God Almighty said: “And whoever obeys God and the Messenger - those are with those to whom God has bestowed of the prophets and those who exaggerate in the honest and the witnesses and the righteous. These are good companions.”

Al-Siddiq is: Al-Siddiq: who is always truthful - Al-Siddiq: who is exaggerated in honesty.

Second: The definitions of God’s righteous guardian

Allah says

“Indeed, the guardians of God have no fear, nor do they grieve, those who believe and pious* for them is good news in the life of this world and in the Hereafter, no alter the words of God. That is the great victory.

God's guardian is in the language

Wala between the two commands: Continue between them

Wala to the thing: follow it

Wala so-and-so: he loves him

Wala so-and-so: he supported him

Lover and friend

Anyone who is appointed to do something or performs it. Male or female, such as the student’s guardian

In the terminology

A righteous guardian: among Muslims, a man known for his upright conduct, worship, and behavior, and he is equivalent to a saint among the Christians.

Third: The famous holy hadith about them
In the Holy Hadith

God Almighty says: Whoever is hostile to a friend of mine has fought against me, and my servant will not draw near to Me by performing what I have made obligatory upon him, and My servant will continue to draw near to Me by performing voluntary acts of worship, Until I love him, and if I love him, I will be his hearing with which he hears and his sight with which he sees, And his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks, by means of which he hears, by means of which he sees, by means of which he strikes, and by means of which he walks and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he seeks My refuge, I will seek refuge with him. And I do not hesitate about anything I do as I hesitate about taking the soul of My faithful servant, he hates death, and I hate to touch him, and he must have it.

We take several points from the Holy Hadith

1 - A promise from God - the Almighty - that the guardian will not want to fight anyone on his own behalf, but instead, God - the Almighty - and by himself - he undertakes to defend and fight those who fight him.

2 - It began with the guardian (My servant does not draw near to Me...) and ended with God hating for this guardian to be sad.

3- If the guardian reaches the point of loving God - the Almighty - he fades away and melts in divine love until he can hardly hear, walk, or walk except in what he loves God.

4 - The supplication of the Guardian is answered: (And if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he seeks My refuge, I will seek refuge him.)

Fourth: The status of God’s guardian saints in Islam
There is no fear for them

Islam places the righteous guardian of God in a great position, which stipulates that they have no fear of the horrors of the Day of Resurrection, during which many will suffer, especially from the evil people remaining on earth, but the matter depends on the degree of guardianship, as every believer has a degree a specific mandate for the good work he performs, on its basis, God - the Almighty - will reward him and grant him a great reward, God threatened war against those who were hostile to them, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, on the authority of the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - “Indeed, God said: Whoever is hostile to a guardian of mine, I have declared him permission, by war.” God - Glory be to Him - is the opponent of everyone who begs Him, Himself to oppose them because they are the righteous and the pious. They are not mentioned on earth, but rather they are mentioned in heaven by God and His angels.

The degree of injustice to himself

He is the sinful believer, so he has guardianship according to his faith and good deeds, the one who oppresses himself is one of the people of faith: he has the guardianship of God in proportion to his faith and piety, and he also has those who are against that in proportion to his immorality and sin.

The average degree

He is the believer who adheres to God’s commands and avoids sins, but does not strive to perform voluntary acts of worship: this is a higher degree of guardianship than the previous one.

The degree of the former in good deeds

He is the one who performs the voluntary prayers along with the obligatory ones, and attains high levels of heartfelt worship to God Almighty, such as: (trust - not deceit or envy...etc.) This is in the high levels of guardianship, those who precede in good deeds are of the highest degree of guardianship, such as the prophets and the truthful, the average person in worship and the one who excels in good deeds may have sins erased from him: either through repentance - and God loves those who repent and love those who purify themselves - or through good deeds that are erased, or through calamities that expiate, or otherwise.

Sixth: Their famous characteristics among scholars
believers/ pious

He does not say, “I am a guardian,” nor does he claim guardianship, that is, believe in God, His angels, His books, and His messengers, and the Last Day, and in destiny, its good and its evil, they validated their faith by using piety, obeying commands, and avoiding prohibitions.

Faith in God Almighty

A faith that does not waver in giving and taking, but rather a firm faith like mountains. It is possible for the winds to shake and reduce it at times, but do not remove it completely and do not doubt God - the Almighty.

They sincerely

In the sacred hadith narrated by Muslim and Ibn Majah on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God Almighty be pleased with him, God Almighty said: “I am more independent of partners than polytheism, whoever does a deed in which he associates others with me, I left him and his company, God forbid they are loyal to God - the Almighty - not out of fear of punishment as stated in the noble hadith, but rather out of love and gratitude to a God who is more deserving of being worshiped and loyal to Him.

Love each other for the sake of God

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Among the servants of God are servants whom the prophets and martyrs' good envy, they were told O Messenger of Allah? Maybe we love them. He said: They are a people who love each other for the sake of God without wealth or lineage. Their faces are light upon platforms of light. They are not afraid if people fear, they do not feel sad when people feel sad. Then he read: (Indeed, the guardians of God have no fear, nor do they grieve.) Narrated by Abu Dawud with a good chain of transmission.

It is said in the Arabic proverb: No two people agree in cohabitation unless one of them agrees on the quality of the other, because their descriptions are the same as each other, they become acquainted and composed, and there is no good in one who does not become acquainted or acquainted.

The People of the Qur’an

Imam Ahmad and Ibn Majah narrated that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: (Indeed, Allah has a family of people. They said: O Messenger of Allah, who are they? He said: They are the people of the Qur’an, the people of God and His chosen ones) and it was authenticated by Al-Albani in Sahih Ibn Majah.

They love the Qur’an

They work with it by interpreting it, memorizing it, acting on it, and believing it. The Qur’an is rich, and every person can extract from it whatever he wants, such as grammar, eloquence, literature, and Qur’anic sciences, and the history of nations and others, so they are not only memorizers, but rather doers. The Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - was a Qur’an that walked on the earth.

They are exposed to great temptations and emerge from them

They emerge from every dark dust pure and pious; Because their hearts are illuminated by the remembrance of God Almighty, so if they enter into temptation, they emerge from it better than red gold, Have you seen the raw material? If gold is to be extracted from it, it is placed in a furnace, heated, and blown to make these impurities and the mixtures that cover them fly away. Then it becomes pure red gold with nothing in it.

Their du'a' are accepted

A supplication: a connection between the servant and his Lord, Glory be to Him, and for this reason the guardian of God Almighty are keen to resort to God Almighty with supplication; Allah says

“And when My servants ask you about Me, then I am near, I answer the call of the supplicant, When He calls upon Me, let them respond to Me and believe in Me, so that they may be guided.” [Al-Baqarah: 186].

On the authority of Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, he said:

The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “How many people are disheveled, dusty, and have two garments, not care about him anyone, if he swore an oath to God to fulfill it, including Al-Baraa bin Malik.”[Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and said: This is a good and strange hadith from this chain of transmission, and Al-Albani authenticated it.

Pious - hide

Those who, if they were absent, were not missed, and if they were present, they were not invited

Because of their disdain for people, they were not recognized. Because they do not have reputation or fame, their hearts are lamps of guidance, they emerge from every dark dust pure and pious, because their hearts are illuminated by the remembrance of God Almighty, On the authority of Sahl bin Saad Al-Saadi, he said: A man passed by the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “What do you say about this man? They said, “We say this is one of the most honorable people. If he wants to marry, he should be married, and if he intercedes, he should intercede, and if he said that what he said should be listened to, then the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, remained silent, and another man passed by, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: What do you say about this? They said, “We say, by God, O Messenger of God: This is one of the poor Muslims. If he wants to marry, he will not get married, if he intercedes, he will not intercede, and if he speaks, his words will not be listened to, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “This is better than filling the earth like this.” [Al-Bukhari and others.

Students of religious and worldly knowledge

Allah says

“Allah will exalt those who have believed among you and those who have been given knowledge, degrees, and God is an Expert of what you do.

The guardian of God Almighty are keen to seek Islamic knowledge that will help them know the matters of their religion, they strive to seek useful worldly sciences, such as medicine, pharmacy, engineering, agriculture, commerce, and other sciences that help them in prolonging their worldly lives.

indeed Allah is fear the scientists

Al-Tirmidhi narrated on the authority of Abu Al-Darda’, may God be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: The scholars are the heirs of the prophets. The prophets did not leave behind a dinar or a dirham, they only inherited knowledge, so whoever takes it will have a great fortune. (Sahih Hadith), (Sahih Al-Tirmidhi by Al-Albani, Hadith 2159).

They thank God in all circumstances

Muslim narrated on the authority of Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, who said

The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: God is pleased with the servant when he eats the food and praises him for it, or he drinks the drink and praises him for it. (Muslim - Hadith: 2734).

Al-Tirmidhi narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him

On the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, he said: A grateful feeder is in the same position as a patient fasting person, (Sahih Hadith), (Sahih Al-Tirmidhi - by Al-Albani - Hadith: 2021).

There are people

You eat and drink and do not think about praising God - the Almighty - for His blessings and do not consider them among the blessings in the first place, There are preventable diseases, famines, water poverty, and calamities across the land.

They work to earn their living
God Almighty said

“It is He who has made the earth a domain for you, so walk in its paths and eat of His provision, and to Him is the resurrection” [Al-Mulk: 15].

Al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Al-Miqdam, may God be pleased with him

The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: No one has ever eaten food better than eating the work of his own hands, And the Prophet of God, David, peace be upon him used to eat from the work of his own hands. (Bukhari - Hadith 2072).

The Guardians whose claiming guardianship in many Arab countries

They live dependent on people and are deceived by those who bless them, so they live on aid from their disciples.

The benevolence

Al-Bayhaqi narrated on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, who said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: God Almighty loves, when one of you does a job, to do it well. (Hassan Hadith), (Al-Silsilah Al-Sahih - by Al-Albani - Hadith: 1113) There are people who do not work unless they receive a wage, and there are people who, even when they receive a wage, work according to the amount of money they earned, There are people who work in secret with perfection - with kindness - with completeness - no one can review their work. This is it, so if you slaughter, slaughter well... the Hadith

The cleanliness
Al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Salman Al-Farisi, may God be pleased with him, who said

The Prophet said: May God’s prayers and peace be upon him. A man should not wash himself on Friday and purify himself as much as he can, He applies some of his ointment or touches some of his household perfume, then he goes out and does not differentiate between the two, Then he prays what is prescribed for him, then he listens when the imam speaks, unless he is forgiven for what comes between him and the next Friday prayer; (Al-Bukhari - Hadith 883).

Abu Dawud narrated on the authority of Jabir bin Abdullah, may God be pleased with them, who said:
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace

came to us and saw a disheveled man, His hair became frizzy, so he said: Didn’t he find this to calm his hair with, and he saw another man wearing dirty clothes, so he said: Didn’t this man find water to wash his clothes with? Sahih Hadith) (Sahih Abu Dawud - by Al-Albani - Hadith 3427

They average in their worship

The rank of guardianship requires the servant to be moderate and moderate in everything. He is ascetic with this world, but God’s blessings appear upon him, so he does not forget the good fortune of himself and his family, We have a good role model in the Messenger of God, and he is the Prophet, the best of God’s creation, who said: (By God, I am the most God-fearing and most pious of you, but I fast and break my fast, and I pray and I sleep, I marry women, so whoever deviates from my Sunnah is not of me.”[10] The hadith indicates moderation, Guardianship is not about abundance of prayer, fasting, and isolation from people, rather, by associating with them, being patient with their harm, and purifying hearts from envy, hatred, and malice towards them.

On the authority of Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, may God be pleased with him, he said

The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: If one of you sees a vision that he likes, for it is from God, so let him thank God for it and narrate it, and if he sees something other than that which he dislikes, It is from Satan, so let him seek refuge from its evil, and do not mention it to anyone, for it will not harm him. Narrated by Al-Bukhari.

In the hadith of Abu Saeed

A good vision is the interpretation of what is meant by goodness here. Al-Muhallab said: What is meant is the majority of the visions of the righteous. Otherwise, the righteous may see the false, but it is rare because Satan has control over them. Unlike their opposite, honesty is rare in them due to the dominance of Satan over them, He said: People have three levels of this: the prophets and their visions are all truthful, and something may occur in them that needs expression, the righteous and most likely have truthfulness in their dreams, and something may occur in them that does not need expression. Among those other than them, truthfulness and falsehood occur in their dreams, and they are divided into three categories: They are hidden, for most of the time their situation is just, and there is immorality, and their visions are mostly distorted and there is little truth in them, They are infidels, and truthfulness in their dreams is very rare, and this is indicated by his saying, may God bless him and grant him peace: The most truthful of them in a dream is the most truthful of them in a speech. Narrated by Muslim from the hadith of Abu Hurairah... “The message and prophecy have been cut off, and there is no messenger or prophet after me.” He said, “This made the people difficult.” He said, “But the women who bring good tidings, They said, “O Messenger of God, what are the good tidings?” He said, “The Muslim’s vision is part of the parts of prophecy.”

Direct preservation from God Almighty
God Almighty said

“Those to whom the people said, ‘The people have gathered against you, so fear them, so it increased their faith and they said, “Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.” So, they turned with the grace of God, and with grace, no harm touched them, and they followed the pleasure of God, and God is the Possessor of great bounty.

And whoever is hostile to God’s Gurdian

God Almighty has fought, and God loves the righteous, pious, and hidden, who, if they are absent, are not missed, and if they are present, they are not called, because of their disdain for people, they were not recognized. Because they do not have reputation or fame, their hearts are lamps of guidance.

They have good news

Allah says

(For them is good news in this life and in the hereafter)

As for the good news in this world, it is good praise, affection in the hearts of believers, good visions, and what the servant sees of God’s kindness to him and His facilitation of the best deeds, and morals, and distracting him from the evils of morals. As for the afterlife, the first of them is the good news when their souls are taken, and in the grave, there is good news of God Almighty’s satisfaction and eternal bliss, and in the Hereafter, there will be full good news of entering the Gardens of Bliss and being saved from the painful torment (Tafsir Al-Saadi, may God have mercy on him).

They have dignity
First: What is the difference between dignity and miracle?
The miracle

A verse of prophecy and message, and it is something extraordinary coupled with a challenge at times.

The dignity

For the guardians, it is the appearance of the extraordinary matter at their hands and not as a challenge, but rather God Almighty grants it as an honor for them.

Ibn Uthaymeen said

“As for karamat, it is the plural of karama, and karama is an extraordinary matter that God Almighty performs at the hands of a guardian, “In support of it, or as assistance, or as confirmation, or as a victory for the religion.”

The Proving the dignity of guardians

It is a matter upon which the nation’s predecessors were unanimously agreed upon. The Sunnis agreed upon proving the miracles of the guardians based on many sources, Texts in the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet, including but not limited to:

1 - The story of Maryam, daughter of Imran: She used to see summer fruits in winter and vice versa

2 - The story of the people of the cave

3 - One of the Companions was reciting Surah Al-Kahf on a Friday night, and lanterns descended near him, all of them lit, When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was informed, he said, meaning: the angels came to listen to the Qur’an from you.

4 - In Al-Tirmidhi’s explanation: “Imran bin Husayn... was one of the scholars of the Companions, and the angels used to greet him.”

5 - Salman and Abu Darda, may God be pleased with them, were eating from a dish, and the dish praise God or what was in it praise God.

6 - Khubayb bin Adi, may God be pleased with him, was a prisoner of the polytheists in Mecca, and he was brought grapes to eat, but there was no grape in Mecca.

How is dignity correct?

First: Its owner must be a believer and pious.

Secondly: Does its owner not claim guardianship? He does not say: I am a guardian. He does not claim guardianship

Third: He must be knowledgeable of religion and the provisions of Sharia, aware of God Almighty and not ignorant.

Fourth: He must be constantly fearful of himself, and must not neglect duties or do forbidden things

The second section: He was denied in dignity and denied it

They denied what is proven in the Qur’an and Sunnah regarding the correct blessings that God Almighty has granted and is granting to His pious guardians.

Section Three: The understanding ones, the middle between negligence and excess

And exaggeration and estrangement, and they are the people of the Sunnah and the community who mediated the issue of miracles, so they proved what the Qur’an and Sunnah have proven regarding the existence and occurrence of miracles for guardians, they did not go to extremes regarding their owners, did not attach themselves to them other than God Almighty, and denied anything that contradicted the Qur’an and Sunnah, Of quackery and sorcery, not every supernatural thing that happens to a human being is considered an honor for him, and that he is one of God’s guardians.

Seventh: Our duty towards God’s righteous Guardians
1- Do not antagonize the guardian

Whoever is hostile to my guardian has fought against me

That is: I informed him, and this is a severe threat. Because whoever God fights, He will destroy him, and this is an eloquent metaphor, because whoever hates whoever loves God disobeys God, and whoever disobeys God opposes him, and whoever opposes him, he will destroy him. And if this is proven in terms of hostility, He remained steadfast in loyalty, so whoever supports God’s guardian, God will honor him, (Fath al-Bari by al-Asqalani, vol. 11, p. 350)

May God hasten to help victory His guardians.

God is the quickest thing to help His guardian. Does the one who fights God think that he will rise up and resist him? or does he who fights God’s saints think that God Almighty will be powerless? or does the one who duels with God think that he will outpace him and miss him? How can God avenge them in this world and the hereafter? For this reason, God does not entrust the support of His guardians to anyone else, rather, he is the one who supports them, and let us remember that Islam, whether the Qur’an or the Sunnah, we have not heard of a declaration of war from God directly against anyone, such as usury or fighting a guardian.

2- You must be loyal to them

It is forbidden to antagonize them, just as it is obligatory to antagonize the enemies of God and it is forbidden to be allied with the enemies of God, so it is also obligatory to be allied with the guardians of God. God Almighty said:

Do not take my enemies and your enemies as allies

So, the opposite is true

3- Beware of attachment to the people of the graves

Their supplication to anyone other than God, asking them for help, and making vows to them, because this is polytheism. For example, some people commit such things, It is obligatory for us to worship God alone, without partners, because it is His right, as the Almighty said:

“وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ حُنَفَاءَ” [سورة البينة: 5]

“And they were not commanded except to worship God, sincere in religion to Him, turning away from polytheism.” [Surat Al-Bayyinah: 5]

4- We respect them and do not underestimate their value

Eighth: Visiting their graves

This is the content of what Sheikh Mahmoud Shaltout, the former Sheikh of Al-Azhar - may God Almighty have mercy on him - says.

The Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, permitted and taught his companions to visit graves, and he visited them, and men and women visited them, and the early Muslims became accustomed to doing so, as they received from his covenant in knowledge and work, they followed it, and in the graves are the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous, none of them did anything left in visiting these righteous people beyond what he initiated in visiting others: remembrance, submission, and supplication.

What do we do about the owners of the decorated shrines?

With silver shrines and decorated domes - exceeding the legal limit in visiting graves, And an intrusion into something unlawful in the name of the lawful, so he paused for permission at the door of the shrine, facing it with palms raised in supplication, and circling around it while kissing its sides and touching it with iron or wood, explaining issues and tasks, submitting petitions and requesting a decision on them, all of this is an illegal act, which God and the Messenger reject, and the owners of the shrines themselves are angry about.

In the end: Do not associate them with dervishes, you may be one of them
